Sam Miller is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, working under the licensed supervision of Dr. Georgina Smith PhD. Sam holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology with an emphasis in human development from DePaul University, as well as a master’s degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis on marriage and family therapy from Pepperdine University.

Sam’s approach is compassionate and straightforward as she helps clients focus on growing self-consideration as they navigate issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, sexuality and gender identity, trauma, and more. She is in the process of building her experience and competence in sex therapy and education. Sam provides a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to bring up what may feel uncomfortable. Her goal is to be supportive as well as challenging as clients gain insight into their inner selves, and develop self-care and response flexibility strategies that allow for healing, increased sense of self, self-regulation, and empowerment, as she believes healing begins when we truly show ourselves deep consideration.

Sam’s previous experience includes being an early childhood educator as well as practicing psychotherapy with a psychodynamic approach at a non-profit community therapy facility with both individuals, families, and group therapy. Sam has experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, grief, issues pertaining to sexuality, and gender identity. Her approach is rooted in a psychodynamic framework, while also integrating emotion-focused therapy and CBT techniques.

“The relationship between client and therapist is essential for meaningful work to take place. To honor your process, I will approach our discussions with warmth, empathy, realness, with the intent to challenge you as we create the space to truly face your experience of the world. My therapeutic approach is integrative and relational, and rooted in the idea that our past experiences influence our reflexive responses the world around us as we continue to grow. In our work we will focus on the present and past to discover and adapt what hasn’t historically worked for you, as you navigate relationships, life stressors, and change.

I have experience working with adults, adolescents, and children, as well as adults in group therapy addressing such issues as depression, anxiety, grief, issues pertaining to sexuality and gender identity, relationship and phase of life issues, and trauma. As we clarify and work toward your goals, you will increase coping strategies, and create change in the way you perceive yourself and others, and create a path towards expansiveness and healing.

As an AMFT I practice under the supervision of Dr. Georgina Smith PhD Lic PSY22108. Remote sessions (via HIPAA compliant video platform) and in person sessions are available.”
